ESPN is looking to ride one of the next big waves in consumer electronics with a new 3-D sports channel. The network, owned by the Walt Disney Co., says it will introduce a channel this year that will broadcast live sports events using the technology, starting with the FIFA World Cup soccer match on June 11.
The channel will not operate 24 hours a day, but plans to run at least 85 live events in its first year.
In an interview, ESPN's vice president for technology, Chuck Pagano, said the network is preparing for a "3-D tsunami" in the TV industry.

Major electronics makers such as Sony Corp. plan to bring 3-D TV sets to market soon, duplicating the 3-D trend that hit the movie industry in 2009.

Sir Paul McCartney's ex-wife, Heather Mills, is determined to compete as an ice-skater on a British reality TV show, despite fracturing her rib and damaging her shoulder in practice sessions.

The former model, who lost part of her left leg in a traffic accident in 1993, is in rigorous rehearsals for "Dancing On Ice," which hits the small screen in the U.K. later this month.

But she is already nursing some nasty injuries after a series of falls on the rink.

Mills tells the Mirror, "I've snapped off my rib doing a lift, I had eight lessons and was flat on my back for 10 days after a fall, and I nearly had to drop out.

"I fractured a rib, tore my rotator cuff, then shifted out my pelvis. There is not much left to break. ... My doctor thought it was ridiculous and said: 'I think you should pull out.'"

However, the 41-year-old is determined to participate in the show -- as long as her injuries aren't too serious.

She adds, "I woke up and thought, 'I'm doing this for charity,' and I saw my boots and sparkly catsuits and thought, 'I've got to do this'. If I puncture a lung I guess I will have to give up."

“It’s a terrible first date,” says Parks and Recreation showrunner Michael Schur of the Jan. 14 episode, which finds Amy Poehler’s Leslie on a date with an MRI technician played by her real-life hubby, Will Arnett. “He finds out that she’s never had an MRI, so he offers to give her a free one. She’s trying to be a good sport, but suffice it to say, they don’t have a second date.”

Forget that undeniably lovable -- but undeniably similar -- Michael Cera we saw in fan favorites like 'Superbad,' 'Juno' and 'Arrested Development.' We're about to see an entirely new Michael Cera in January's 'Youth in Revolt.'

In 'Youth in Revolt,' the quivery voiced, fresh-faced Cera makes pointed sexual references, wears blue eye contacts and sunglasses, and always smokes a cigarette. Of course, this is his character's fictional alter-ego, Francois Dillinger, a Frenchman in tight clothes and with a towering libido. (Cera also plays Nick Twisp, the typical lovestruck namby-mamby we know and love, who falls for Portia Doubleday and is committed to winning her over by showing his rebellious side.)

Moviefone caught up with the real Michael Cera to talk about his 'Youth'-ful roles and future endeavors -- yes, including that 'Arrested Development' movie.

Artist and filmmaker Sam Taylor-Wood is expecting a baby with Aaron Johnson, the star of her debut film Nowhere Boy.

Taylor-Wood, 42, and Johnson, 19, began their relationship while making the John Lennon biopic last year and confirmed their engagement last November.

A spokesman for the pair told the Evening Standard on Wednesday: "We can confirm that Sam is pregnant with her and Aaron's first child. Both are very, very happy."

Taylor-Wood is already a mother to two daughters - Angelica, 12, and Jessie, three - from her 11-year marriage to art gallery owner Jay Jopling, who she divorced in 2008.

Speaking to the Guardian in November, Taylor-Wood explained she was uninterested in the 23-year age gap with Johnson, who has the lead role in Matthew Vaughan's upcoming action-comedy Kick-Ass.

"I've always lived my life as fearlessly as possible," Taylor-Wood explained.

"And going through all the crap I've been through, I don't really listen to other people's opinions, just follow my heart and my instincts."

I don't really know who these people are, but the post about them getting married got a lot of replies, so I thought some might be interested in the reason for their shotgun wedding.

Does college really matter for starlets?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

On "Hannah Montana," Brooke Shields plays Miley Cyrus' dead mother, but rumor has it that off-screen she is playing the role of Miley's high school guidance counselor.

Apparently, Shields' motherly instincts kicked in when the young starlet told her last year that she was planning to skip college. Even though toothpaste commercials don't require knowledge of French literature, Shields explained to the Miles that she is a better person for getting her degree from Princeton.

Now, the word is that Cyrus may be considering following in Shields' footsteps and applying to some Ivy League schools in 2010. I somehow can't see Miley Cyrus studying Proust, but I get Shields' point. An education never hurt anyone, especially a young rock star/actress who has been known to bare her midriff and make ignorant remarks. Even though many college grads do not end up doing anything remotely related to their undergrad degrees, the experience is about personal growth ... right?

But this begs the question: Do young starlets really need a college education if they're already successful? Let's compare Ivy League stars with their School of Life counterparts to see if a diploma really makes a difference.

It all went down at the grand opening of Vanity nightclub in the Hard Rock Hotel -- which was hosted by Diddy. We're told Floyd Mayweather rolled over to the party to see Diddy, when he literally ran into rapper Rick Ross.

Sources tell TMZ one of the men "bumped" into the other man and their entourages immediately became "confrontational."

But as things started to heat up, we're told Diddy swooped in between the guys and calmed everyone down.

We called Mayweather's camp for comment and his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., told us there's been beef between Floyd and Ross for a while because Ross has allegedly been, "talking s**t."

We're told both Mayweather Jr. and Ross eventually went back in the club and partied the rest of the night away without incident.

Calls to Rick Ross were not returned. No comment from Camp Diddy.

At 40, Jennifer Lopez isn't slowing down. If anything, she's embracing life and not letting anyone hold her back. "What, because I have kids and a husband now I'm not supposed to be me? I'm a more heightened me if anything. Hyper J.Lo. Everything I wanted before, I want twice as much now," Lopez reveals in the February issue of ELLE. After the jump, Lopez gets candid about motherhood, in vitro fertilization and what it's like competing with twenty-something pop idols as a 40-year-old mom.

On why she never considered in vitro fertilization: "When it comes to family and relationships, I'm quite traditional. Just because of the way I was raised. And I also believe in God and I have a lot of faith in that, so I just felt like you don't mess with things like that. And I guess deep down I really felt like either this is not going to happen for me or it is. You know what I mean? And if it is, it will. And if it's not, it's not going to."

On the merit of her romantic comedies: "I think 'Maid in Manhattan' and 'Monster-in-Law' are very layered movies. And that's why they're so successful. People don't like sh--ty romantic comedies. Nothing that's sh--ty is going to make $100 million."

On competing with twenty-something pop idols as a 40-year-old mom: "This is what I do--what, because I have kids and a husband now I'm not supposed to be me? I'm a more heightened me if anything. Hyper J.Lo. Everything I wanted before, I want twice as much now. And that doesn't mean material things; it means to explore more, to think more. Being an artist doesn't start because you're 21, and it doesn't end because you're 51. You are who you are until the day you die."
